During these unprecedented times, Royal Mail continue to work hard to collect, process and deliver the UK’s mail. However, despite their best endeavours, it’s likely some areas of the country will experience some level of disruption due to Coronavirus-related absences at local mail centres or delivery offices.
SaveMyLight have been tracking items sent to various locations around the UK with some deliveries taking between 7 – 14 days to arrive with the longest delivery delays being in Northern Ireland.
Temporary change to postal arrangements on Saturdays
From 2 May Royal Mail will temporarily no longer deliver letters on a Saturday.
They will continue to provide a letter delivery service from Monday to Friday as normal.
The majority of parcel services will be delivered on a Saturday including 1st and 2nd Class Parcels, Royal Mail Tracked 24 and 48, Royal Mail Tracked Returns, Special Delivery Guaranteed and International tracked services.
Longer retention periods in Customer Service Points
To give customers longer to collect or have an item redelivered, from Monday 6 April Royal Mail have temporarily extended the retention period to 30 calendar days before items are returned to sender.
This applies to the following:
Items with a ‘Something for You’ card
Changes to Special Delivery Guaranteed
Due to increased absence levels, Royal Mail have reviewed their timed guarantees for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am and 1pm services and will make the following changes:
Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am – will no longer guarantee deliveries by 9.00am the next working day for items posted from Tuesday 31 March 2020 onwards. From this date they will instead guarantee deliveries by 12.00pm.
Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm – will no longer guarantee deliveries by 1.00pm the next working day for items posted from Tuesday 31 March 2020 onwards. From this date they will instead guarantee deliveries by 9.00pm.
