As of 1st October 2022 SaveMyLight was left with no other option but to remove Fedex as delivery agent and instruct Royal Mail UK to handle all of our International Shipping.
One of the main reasons for this switch was to reduce the Import Duty applied and then a subsequent Fedex handling charge to deal with the Customs clearance.
There were also multiple Fedex price rises that we deemed to costly resulting in customers complaining that Fedex shipping was too expensive.
In the short time we have used Royal Mail UK we have seen a superb delivery rate with only 2 returns to date due to customers refusing to pay the applicable Import Duty upon Customs clearance.
Some customers still do not realise that the UK has left the EU and is now a non-EU country as such Import Duty will be due on all imports no matter what country goods are imported in to.
What we have seen is a large increase in customers telephoning to ask whether SaveMyLight has shipped their goods and why there is a delay in receiving their goods.
SaveMyLight ships goods the same day, if not the next working day (if ordered on a weekend).
Upon checking the tracking associated for the delivery, goods are being held at the point of entry with Customs who no doubt have hundreds of thousands of shipments to x-ray and clear for entry to the relevant country.
SaveMyLight does not have contact details for Customs Clearance Departments in any country.
Should goods show as held by Customs then only Customs can approve and clear goods for onward delivery.
Please allow more time for goods to clear Customs.
Please note that should a customer refuse to pay Import Duty which is a legal requirement in the receiving country and goods are returned to us we reserve the right to deduct any shipping return charge from any refund owed.
UK Shipping
All areas are facing delays due to repeat Royal Mail strikes by CWU staff which means there is a delay in delivering goods. These strikes are having a knock on effect.
We are unable to advise customers when goods will be delivered and recommend using the tracking number sent to track goods as they move through the delivery network.
SaveMyLight will not send further items FOC until Royal Mail have confirmed goods are lost and have advised extra time for delivery of goods due to the strikes.
