Thank you very much for your help and advice. I have replaced all 8 bulbs with 12v 10 watt G4s. I switched on the lights at about mid- day and they have now been on for over 5 hours with no problems. I think the problem is solved. I am very grateful for your prompt and very helpful suggestions.
